Dianne E. Downey (April 1, 1941 - November 27, 2013)

Dianne Edith (Homer) Downey, 72, of Newport peacefully passed on Wednesday, November 27, 2013. Dianne was born in Newport on April 1, 1941.

She was the daughter of the late John and Edith Homer. Throughout her childhood Dianne lived in Newport, R.I., Harrisburg, PA, and Bermuda. She graduated from high school, married, and raised her family here in Newport. She was a stay at home mom for many years, worked the second shift for General Electric and finally Sig's Market until retiring. Dianne was an incredible mother and grandmother also known as "Mama" to her grandchildren. Dianne will always be remembered for her wit, her affectionate love for her family and friends, as well as her outgoing personality.

Dianne is survived by her husband Leo F. Downey, her children:

    • Nicolle Icart of Portsmouth,
  • her sons
    • Michael F. Downey of Newport and
    • James N. Downey and his wife Margaret, of Braintree, Mass,
  • grandchildren
    • Ashley Peck and her husband Troy,
    • David Vierra,
    • Hannah Vierra,
    • Ena, Lilah and Norah Downey,
    • and Lydon Icart.

Dianne is also survived by many nieces and nephews and her brother George Homer of Harrisburg, PA.

Dianne is predeceased by her brothers David, William, Eddie, John (Gus), James and Robert Homer and her sisters Edith Homer and Bernadette Thibodeau.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, December 2, 2013 at St. Augustin's Church, Carroll Avenue, Newport at 10am. Burial will be private.

Visiting hours are respectfully omitted.

In lieu of flowers donations in Dianne name may be made to the St. Augustin's Church Building Fund, 2 Eastnor Road, Newport, RI 02840
