SPRING HILL, Fla. - Walter G. Groux passed away in his sleep at his home in Spring Hill, FL on Friday, December 15, 2006. He was 75.

Born in Newport, RI on October 5, 1931, he was the son of the late Albert and Grace (Legg) Groux.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Edith (Ferris) Groux; his son Walter Groux Jr. and his wife Marguerite of Voluntown, CT; his son Michael Groux and his wife Barbara of Middletown, RI; his daughter Linda Brown of Newport, RI.

Grandfather of 6 loving grandchildren: Jennifer, Christopher, and Sarah Groux; and Heather, Courtney, and Joseph Markman. Brother of Albert J. Groux of Burke, VA; Grace Pedro of Middletown, RI; Ann Anderson of Newport, RI; the late Donald Groux of Newport, RI; June Santos of Newport, RI; and the late Kathleen Sekunda of Newport, RI.

He graduated Rogers High School in Newport, RI, was a member of the RI Honor Society, served in the US Navy and received an Honorable Discharge on July 4th, 1953. He continued education at the RI School of Design to become a Tool & Die Maker for General Electric in Newport where he worked for 30 years. Walter was always giving of himself to family, friends and community. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, served as a coach, team manager, and President of the National Little League in Newport, RI; volunteered without hesitation for Boy Scout Troup 70 of Newport to serve as a committee person, and as Scoutmaster; he was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians for many years, serving as Steward for a period. Finally, in retirement, Walter gave of himself until the end caring for his loving wife.

A funeral service will be held at St. Augustinís Church, 2 Eastnor Road, Newport, RI on Saturday, January 6, 2007, at 9:30 a.m. n Family and friends are invited to celebrate his life immediately following the service at the Hibernian Hall, 2 Wellington Aveenue in Newport.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
