NEWPORT - Raymond J. Lynch, 77, of 9 Harrison Avenue, Newport RI died Wednesday, April 6, 2005 at Newport Hospital after a long illness.

Mr. Lynch was born in Newport on June 20, 1927. He was the son of the late A. Raymond and Mary Burns Lynch of Newport and the son-in-law of the late Cornelius F. Murphy and Loretta Nuss Murphy of Middletown. Mr. Lynch leaves his wife of 51 years, Joan Murphy Lynch and seven children.

He leaves four daughters: Anne M. DeCotis and Brigid L. Rubin of Newport, Joan E. Fitzgerald of Portsmouth, RI and Mary L. Dobb of Hamden, CT. He also leaves three sons: Timothy R. Lynch and Raymond J. Lynch, Jr. of Newport, and Michael C. Lynch of Washington, D.C. Mr. Lynch is also survived by his sister, Maureen (Mrs. Charles) Meehan of Newport, and thirteen grandchildren.

Mr. Lynch graduated from De La Salle Academy, Class of 1945; was a life-long parishioner of St. Augustin Church and was a member of the Dennis E. Collins Ancient Order of Hibernians.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 9, 2005 at 10 a.m. in St. Augustin Church, Carroll Avenue, Newport. Visiting hours in the O'Neill-Hayes Funeral Home, 465 Spring Street, Newport on Friday, April 8, 2005 from 4-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers remembrances in Mr. Lynch's name may be made to the scholarship fund at Portsmouth Abbey School, Cory Lane, Portsmouth, RI 02871.
