Matthew H. Finn (December 6, 1923 - July 3, 2008) 
Matthew H. Finn, 84, of Newport, R.I., passed away Thursday, July 3rd, 2008, at home surrounded by his family. He was the husband of the late Helen (Murphy) Finn. Born in Newport, he was the son of the late Thomas and Margaret T. (Sullivan) Finn.
Mr. Finn attended St. Augustinís School and Rogers High School. A World War II veteran, Mr. Finn was a recipient of the Combat Infantry Badge, for his service in the Campaigns and Battles of Rhineland Central Europe and the Battle of the Bulge. After the war, he was employed as a master carpenter for over 40 years. He was highly regarded for his ability to teach his craft to aspiring carpenters.
Mr. Finn was a Division Lifetime Member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, where he was named Hibernian of the Year in 1990.He was a life long communicant of St. Augustinís Church.
He was the devoted father of Matthew Finn, Paul Finn, Robert Finn, Timothy Finn, and Helen Finn, all of Newport, RI. He was the father of the late Cornelius Finn. He was predeceased by brothers Thomas, Cornelius, William, Michael (Bill), John Finn, and sister Margaret Finn. He leaves many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 8, 2008, at 10 a.m. in St. Augustinís Church, Carroll Ave, Newport. Burial will be private. Visiting hours will be held on Monday, July 7, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the OíNeill-Hayes Funeral Home, 465 Spring Street, Newport.
