Lawrence F. Sullivan (January 19, 1943 - June 26, 2008) 
Lawrence F. 'Larry' Sullivan, 65, of West Narragansett Ave., Newport, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family and friends on Thursday, June 26, 2008. He was the husband of Suzanne M. 'Sue' (Fitzgerald) Sullivan. Born in Providence, RI, on January 19, 1943, he was a son of the late Lawrence F. and Margaret M. (Byrnes) Sullivan.
Larry was a graduate of De La Salle High School, Class of 1960. From 1960-1963, he served in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Dover, DE., Lackland, TX., and Adana, Turkey. He was employed for over 30 years as a purchasing specialist at Raytheon in Portsmouth and retired in 1993. In 1992, Governor Bruce Sundlun appointed Larry to the Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority where he served for four years. Upon retiring, he worked with his son Tim as a gardener.
His many community activities included coaching the Fifth Ward Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball, and his involvement with the Boy Scouts of America and the Boy’s and Girl’s Club. In 1981, he was awarded the Key to the City of Newport by Mayor Humphrey J. Donnelly for his support of the St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Larry was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians for over 40 years. He was also a member of the Friends of Ballard Park and a former member of Gooseberry Beach.
Besides his wife of 43 years, Larry is survived by his children Patrick E. Sullivan and his wife Sheila of Daytona Beach, FL, Timothy F. Sullivan and his wife Linda of Middletown, RI, Deborah A. Donovan and her husband Patrick of Newport, and Erin M. Goddard and her husband Townsend of Corseaux, Switzerland; 13 grandchildren, Andrew Sullivan, Mitchell Sullivan, Lauren Sullivan, Owen Sullivan, Lindsey Sullivan, Christian Sullivan, Ryan Sullivan, Kerry Donovan, Seamus Donovan, Eamon Donovan, Siobhan Donovan, Job Goddard, and Margaret Goddard; his sister Kathleen S. Connell of Middletown; a brother William P. Sullivan of Jamestown; his aunt Mary M. Sullivan of Newport, and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, June 30, 2008 at 9:00am, at St. Augustin’s Church, Carroll Ave, Newport. Burial at St. Columba Cemetery, Brown’s Ln, Middletown. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, June 29, from 3:00-6:00 pm in the O’Neill-Hayes Funeral Home, 465 Spring St., Newport, RI, 02840.
