Clifford Andrew "Onion" Wilson (April 22, 2013)
Clifford Andrew "Onion" Wilson, 61, of Newport, Rhode Island passed away April 22, 2013. Born in Holyoke, MA to Barbara and Captain Robert Wilson.
He moved often throughout his Navy childhood, but fell in love with Newport and made it his home. He loved the ocean, whether from Ocean Drive, Cliff Walk, or as a surfer at Ruggles. He graduated from Rogers High School in 1970 and went on to found and operate Arrow Builders for many years, building and renovating throughout the island. Although quiet at first, he could always be counted on to tell a good story and never passed up a game of golf or card games with family and friends. A true Yankees fan in Boston territory, he was also a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and the Newport Lodge of Elks.
He leaves his parents Barbara and Robert Wilson of Grafton, VA; his daughters, Julia Wilson of Philadelphia, PA and Kelsey Wilson of Burlington, VT; his brothers Chris Wilson of Colonial Beach, VA, Craig Wilson of Grafton, VA, and sister Kimberly Strunk of Newport News, VA as well as many nephews, nieces, cousins, aunts and uncles.
Services will be held on Saturday, April 27th from 4-7pm at the O’Neill-Hayes Funeral Home at 465 Spring St., Newport, RI. Following, a celebration of his life will be held at the Hibernian Hall at 2 Wellington Avenue, Newport.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Care of The Hibernian Scholarship Fund, Hibernian Hall, 2 Wellington Ave, Newport, RI. 02840.
