Paul Crowley Newport Irish Heritage Award

In recognition of the contributions made by the late Paul Crowley to the community, the Newport Irish Heritage Association has renamed its annual scholarship award in his name.

The Paul Crowley Newport Irish Heritage Award presents $750.00 to a graduating high school senior who will be a college freshman in the fall. Applicants must submit an essay explaining their connection to the culture, history, and traditions of the Irish and their contributions to America. The essay topic can be found on the application form.

In addition to championing education as a state representative, Crowley was one of the original founders of the Newport Irish Heritage Association (along with Rick Kelly, Jimmy Mahoney and Rick O'Neill) in 1977. The association was formed with a goal of preserving and promoting Irish heritage and culture in the local community, and has effected a month-long celebration of all things Irish taking place every March. The proceeds of events organized by the Newport Irish Heritage Association fund the scholarship award.

The application form is available: online at www.aohnewport.org; in the guidance office at the local high schools; and by writing the Newport Irish Heritage Association at P.O. Box 3114, Newport, RI 02840. Please observe the deadline noted on the application form.
